Saturday 27th October:             Frigate 1  v 3 Lads Club

Goals: Fiddes 2, Mason

Mom: Fiddes

Lads Club were desperate to put in a performance after the disappointment of Postal and returned to a more familiar 4-4-2, with a new face up front partnering Fiddes.

Mason made his presence felt from the whistle challenging hard and winning some impressive balls in the air.

A new look back 4 for Lads Club took their time to settle and found themselves 1-0 down after 20 minutes. It actually steadied the ship for them. The defence rallied and tightened the line, proving solid for the rest of game with Frigate rarely troubling Deans for the rest of the 90.

For the 1st time this season, Lads Club showed the fight and character of old and turned the game round to win 3-1.

2 goals from Fiddes and a well deserved goal from Mason secured the points.

More important for Lads Club was the performance and stopping the rot from the previous Saturday.

Not only this but boys, the jinx has finally been put to bed. A win and a night out: all on the same Saturday. Peep Peeps didn’t know what happened.

Saturday 20th October:             Lads Club 1 v 5 Postal ALC

Goals: Bruce

Mom: Webster

Lads Club Amateurs rekindled their oldest rivalry with Postal AFC, this time in Division 1.

Bruce got Lads Club off to a flier with his first goal of the season. If he hasn’t already told you this is how it really went. He collected the ball just on the half way line, pushed forward, looked up and struck from 35 yards. Looping over the keeper at the far post, Bruce celebrated and Lads Club, 1-0 up.

That was as good as it got for Lads Club.

Postal responded by playing some good football, taking advantage from wayward Lads Club defending at set pieces and lack of depth.

K. Webster tried his best to spark things in midfield, Deans kept the score down and Fiddes ran himself into the ground, solo up front.

Postal ran out 5-1 winners, making it 1 win a piece this season so far because of course, Pre-Season counts!!

Saturday 13th October:             Rattrays XI 1 v 1 Lads Club

Goals: K Webster

Mom: K Webster

Once again Club struggle to field 11 having to go to Findon with 10 fit players and a trialist.
A very strong wind saw the home side retain most of the first half possession, having key front men missing club found it increasingly difficult to hold the ball up. Clubs defence were not to be breached and on the rare occasions they were keeper deans was on top of everything! HT 0-0
Second half changes saw Douglas move into centre-mid and Bruce join Fiddes up front.
It’s all club now though the wind has totally died and the sun has come out. A rare Rattrays attack is broke up by sweeper Fraser who calmly takes the ball on his chest but D Argo awards PEN the decision is a total shocker 1-0 Rattrays.
club to there credit keep at the rattrays back four and are very unlucky not to draw level - firstly through Ry. Webster with a pile driver from edge of the area blocked on the line and later Fiddes makes it 9 crossbars out of 11 games this season.
Into the last few Min's and club are eventually rewarded with the equalizer as the ball breaks to mom K. Webster who calmly lashes the ball past the keeper FT 1-1

Saturday 15th September:        Lads Club 2 v 1 Woodside (AFC Trophy)

Goals: Goldie, Barclay

A wet Saturday at Woodside saw Club take on their div 1n neighbours in the cup, with Cub once again struggling to field 11. The boys were great full for a much needed boost with the appearance of captain Mair, the big lad had only just arrived in the country from America that morning! Commitment!!
The mid-field battle was dominated from the start with Webster,Webster,Webster and Mair in control.
Ten Min's in club are first to show as a low driven cross round the back of the Woodside defense is turned by the post when it must have been easier to score from one yard out - yes Fiddes we know it was slippy! Minuets later Goldie slips his marker just inside the opposition half, drives into the box, kept his composure well to hold off the lunging sweeper and slots home the opener - well no as the man in black decides Goldie fouls the sweeper - Nonsense!
it was only a matter of time before Goldie's name was on the score sheet - a scrappy affair as the ball hit the post twice before ending up in the net 1-0.
continued pressure saw the next in a line of bizarre decisions from a ref who is normally one of the best in our association, off day? Once again Goldie slips his marker into the box and once again the sweeper lunges in an takes him out just as he gets his shot away ref looks indecisive as the ball cracks off the bar - to every ones surprise - no pen ref claims he gave advantage!
H-t 1-0 (and an apology as ref realizes it was inside the box and he should have awarded the pen)
this half was more evenly fought as Woodside changed formation in order to chase the game, it's what Saturdays are all about two teams going at it toe to toe on a wet muddy surface, tackles flying in. It was end to end stuff and mid way through the half a corner swung in from the left was crashed home at the back post by Big Ted 2-0
substitutions followed as woodside went all out attack, with the back three winning every 50/50 and big Thompson easily winning the aerial assault Deanser's goal was a no go area as the big man mopped up numerous long range shots/lobs.
Decision no 3 with 15 to go a low shot come Cross kids along the wet surface with Tattie and the fleet footed no 11 both chasing the ball, it looks 50/50 as the no 11 looses his footing on the surface there looked to be no contact as the ref awards the converted pen. 2-1
Woodside gave it everything in the last ten but there was no way this lot were going to score in open play.
Sure we deserved the victory against a team who have had until now a much better start to their lge campaign but we need this kind of display in our own lge campaign the commitment shown yesterday was top drawer!

Saturday 25th August:               Glendale 3 v 3 Lads Club

Goals: Fiddes 2, Mair

Glendale 3 Lads Club Amateurs 3

The best attacking football performance of the season so far.

Again, players were required to play with injuries and 1 with a ‘holiday hangover’ with Tattie touching down in Dyce just prior to kick off.

With Goldie still unavailable and Allison away, Fiddes made his first start through the middle and Ryan Webster asked to fill in as support.

The 1st goal came from a ‘rocket’ clearance from Deans that was knocked on to Fiddes, who turned the last defender and kept his composure to fire low past the keeper to open his account for Lads Club and the season.

Lads Club continued to press and never really had Deans tested at all. Bartlett provided a good outlet up the left, (you wouldn’t believe he is 46) and Mair controlled the centre of the park with K Webster.

Mair ensured Lads Club went in to half-time with a 2 goal advantage after a well struck free kick skidded through a crowd of player’s and in the left bottom corner.

With nothing to lose, Glendale started to flood player’s forward and got the break they were looking for to pull a goal back.

Where normally Creamer would look to freshen things, he again found his resources limited and with 6 player’s indicating to the sideline they were finished, the sums of only 2 substitutes into 6 just really didn’t add up.

However they did go onto extend their lead with some good running and a great pass down the left from ‘Big Ted’, Fiddes again found space in the box to shake his defender and fire into the net.

Glendale again continued to push forward and were awarded a dubious free kick, if you reviewed the video evidence it would have been clear to the ref as it was to everyone at the game that their number 10 was obviously knocked down by a passing bee as Ted never touched him.

They still had work to and from the free kick, Lads Club failed to clear their lines and the ball was knocked past Deans.

From a late corner, the Glendale Sweeper jumped clear in the box to head into the net and steal the 3-points away from Lads Club.

Disappointing not to take all 3 points but a positive footballing performance and with key players returning over the next few weeks, Lads Club are certainly starting to adapt to the higher Division.

Saturday 18th August:               Theologians 3 v 0 Lads Club

Goals:

Mom: Mair

From a squad of 25, Lads Club again found themselves facing selection problems with only 12 players available through holidays and suspension. With only a late arrival from Mann and Fraser, playing through an injury, keeping Creamer off the team-sheet from the start.

Lads Club never looked comfortable from the off, with many players carrying knocks and strains, they still pushed hard trying to flow the football.

They were finally overcome by Theo’s and went in at half time 1-0 down. Even with the depleted squad and options limited the boys rallied and kept pushing to find an equaliser.

With time going against them, Lads Club were in full attack but just could find the net and were caught on the break and then again in the dying minutes to complete a disappointing but fighting display.

Monday 13th August:                 Lads Club 2 v 0 Frigate

Goals: K Webster, Allison

Mom: Allison

After taking a beating from the opposition in the Pre Season ‘Michael Allan Shield’, Lads Club knew they were going to be up against it with a squad decimated by suspensions and holidays.

So much so that Manager, Willie ‘baby-face’ Creamer named himself among the 2 places on the bench.

The eleven that took the field went on to take the game straight to Frigate from the whistle. Faced with provocation and ‘verbal’s’, Lads Club conducted themselves professionally and controlled to go on and win the game deservedly 2-0.

Allison continued his scoring streak and a ‘cracker’ from K Webster sealed the first 3 points of their Division 1 campaign.

Saturday 4th August:                 Lads Club 2 v 4 AC Mill Inn

Goals: Barclay, Allison

Mom: K Webster

The first game of the season and Lads Club certainly did not let themselves become intimated with their new Division 1 status and by the reputation of Mill Inn as one of the contenders for the league.

They twice took the lead through Allison and R Webster with only 2 defensive mistakes late in the 2nd from untested back 4 preventing us taking anything from the game.

Wednesday 16th May:                Stoneywood 1 v 2 Lads Club

Goals: Keith Webster, Ross Webster

Mom: Allison

Almost a full turn out for the Stoneywood game saw the management take a small risk with the team selection- having big Ross suspended for our last two games and with Keith and Ryan just back from serious injury- Ryan Webster was left in the stand to watch the boys battle.
the game kicked off early and it was stoneywood who through their superior physical strength took the game to us, club's defense looked at times to be suffering from nerves. however it was club who came closest to scoring first. hard work from Allison on the left saw him crack a low drive just past the keepers left hand post. minuets later a very good move between Sparky and Allison was wrongly called offside when a goal was almost cert. the resulting free kick punted into the club box was eventually converted into the lead for Stoneywood 1-0 h-t
Second half and a determined Club fly into the home defense from ko and within Min's it's all square some good running from Wilson forced Stoneywood into giving away a corner- sweetly hit by Duncan and cleanly dispatched by Keith Webster the ball crashed into the back of the net! 1-1 Although working hard Wilson, who found himself constantly out muscled by the big no 6 Stoney giant, was replaced by Bruce with the firm instructions "let him know your there". Almost immediately Jolly was (quite fairly) left crumpled in a heap on the deck- job done. Mid- way through the second half and it's Club who look the hungrier, up steps Captain Innsaneo to thunder a shot through the ever impressive Maithers from
30 yards (don't tell anyone but it was actually a limp hit trundler that the keeper made an ar*e of) 1-2 the remainder of the half was played out sensibly a victory assured and the title all but in the bag well done boys you deserve it !!!!

Maps and compasses where issued before the game to help the boys find their way around one of the largest pitches in Amateur football.

The message from Management was to ‘enjoy the football’ after a few tense performances of late. This message was taken on board with some cracking passing play out of defence going forward.

A new partnership in attack was tested in Goldie and Ralston, and the ‘Ginger One’ set about immediately throwing his weight across the Turriff back line.

The deadlock was finally broken from an unfamiliar source this season, with a cleverly worked corner from Ramsay, BRUCE found himself in space just outside the box and shaped up for the cross. He looked to have over hit but the ball looped in over the Turriff number one and into the back of the net.

It was a full 25 yards at most and don’t let ‘Jackanory’ Bruce tell you any different.

Lads Club continued to build from the back but failed to impress on their pressure into half time.

Half Time.

The 2nd half continued just as the first, with Deans mostly a spectator, however he was called into action with a fine block after racing from his line. Goldie eventually got on the score sheet, a rocketed free kick from the left side of the box left the keeper stranded. (Strange how he can bullet them in from there but struggles from six yards)

This may explain why he was hooked late on to allow Hale on for his first appearance of the season.

A sound three points from a place that has proved difficult for some, even with regulars like Allison and Duncan away.

A quick thank you must go to Wilson who took looking after the valuables to a new level, if it wasn’t for Andy and Paul Reid, you would have spent the whole game locked in the changing room.

Next week provides a deserved rest. It’s off to Newcastle for the boys.

Lads Club took the pitch looking to secure all 3 points to cement their position at the top of the table.

They did this in convincing fashion with the goalposts lucky to be in tact after the first half hour. Both posts and the bar 3 times, denied Lads Club from taking an earlier lead.

The breakthrough came minutes from the whistle with Allison gently caressing the ball over the Insch keeper from 30 yards.

In the 2nd half, the back four of Reid, Fraser, Douglas and Bartlett stood strong to keep in tact one of the best defensive records in the Association. Lads Club continued to look a threat going forward and MOM Allison struck a 2nd, strengthening his claim on the top goalscoring trophy with him rapidly catching up on the suspended Goldie.

Our sponsors Frame Up are probably busy this morning, being inundated with people looking for eye tests as no one could believe their eyes as Douglas pounced on a fumble from the Insch keeper to rocket the ball in from ½ inch out.

With Insch under constant pressure, Lads Club got the opportunity to extend the lead with a penalty but it was excellently saved, Reid’s first miss of the season.

To cap the game off Ross Webster got the fourth, to put Lads Club in to top spot.

Saturday 17th March:                 Insch 3 v 0 Lads Club (Dickie Trophy)

Better team on the day!
Lads club fall at the QF stage im thingyie Trophy.....
Clubs' continuing injury woe undoubtedly contributed to their downfall out at Insch. A hard fought first half saw the home side reduced to playing the square ball continually, set up with 5 across the middle this looked like playing into Clubs' hands as time and time again both Goldie and Winaldo were sent through the Insch defense. The home side seemed to benefit most from the big ref's reluctance to venture outside the center circle as decisions went against Wayne's pace and Goldie's strength, that aside the forwards only had their selves to blame for not going in at HT at least 2 up - through one on one with the keeper firstly Winaldo (shot too soft) then Goldie with an awful attempt at a lob when it was easier to score than miss! Deanser was called into action a few times in the half but mainly only to catch some hopeful high punts rather than shots on target. HT 0-0
injury again dictated the first change in the match with Ryan Webster replaced by new boy Ramsay at the break. 10 Min's into the second half Insch got the break through- neat swift passing play saw the right winger lash in a cross superbly finished by the big no 11, this was a very good goal which seemed to lift the Insch boys who's passing game now had them in control. 15 Min's later Insch went 2 up with an unstoppable drive into deanses rh corner- as the ball bobbled loose the Insch no 4 was first to react as he let go with sweet hit. Time to make a change as big Douglas came on for Wilson in the middle however the big lad missed his opportunity to be the hero as once again, through one on one, club fail to score but this time credit to the keeper it was a fine save. with club throwing everything at the opposition a late third was added the third was a gift but only because the team had to gamble late on. sure they're a good side, we wish them all the best in the cup, but we've got to finish our gilt edged chances and look forward to meeting them in our return lge fixture!!!

Saturday 3rd March:                  Lads Club 2 v 0 Blackburn

Goals: Ryan Webster, K Webster

Mom: K Webster

lads club go 2nd
Club entertained lge leaders Blackburn on the Junior Pitch in a top of the table encounter -bruising!
As usual it was all out attack from the off, some quick flowing one touch passing moves early on saw the home side force a string of corners, which it has to be said were expertly dealt with by the Blackburn no.1. With tackles flying in all around it was undoubtedly going to be one for the brave. 20 Min's in and the direct running of the club midfield proved too much for the stuffy Blackburn defence, a 7 pass move created an opening for Ryan Webster who crashed the ball into the net from
18 yd's, 1-0. The visitors, rarely in attack, looked there for the taking. On 35Min's, having noticed the big keeper coming for everything, Keith Webster showed his intelligence at a corner with a near post run and leap flashing his header passed the advancing keeper 2-0. with the half coming to an end it was club in the ascendancy and were very unlucky not to go in 3 or 4 up as Alison, who continuously beat the high line, was wrongly adjudged offside twice with only the keeper to beat. HT 2-0.
Credit to Blackburn the second half was to be nothing like the first, a lot of teams would have buckled to the aggressive tactics shown by the visitors who were not going to give up this match without a fight. Continual Blackburn pressure saw the home side forced to defend for most of the second 45. The hard but fair tackles were soon taking there toll with first Alison then Ryan Webster limping off like girls! The best chance of the half fell to Goldie (on for the frail Alison)- which speaks volumes for the dogged defending shown by club, with ten to go the big ginger goal machine through one on one, with the goalie coming out on top making a fine save. A deserved victory, a clean sheet and a plucky display - well done lads

Saturday 3rd February:             Lads Club 2 v 3 Grammar FPs

Goals: Allison, Goldie

MOM: Allison

Club continue their poor form Compounded by a lack of available players. They went into this lge fixture with the knowledge there closest rivals for the title could, and did, slip up- only to come out with nothing!!
Both teams started tentatively on a poor surface, End to end football of the poorest quality. Club were a little unlucky not to be awarded a pen as Alison was felled in the box however FP's took the lead with a three pass move ending up in the net whilst club were still shouting for the pen! 0-1 With the mid-field still chasing their opponents rather than getting stuck in with a few tackles, FP's took the initiative by converting their efforts into a two goal lead. 0-
2. In an attempt to strengthen the mid-field Wilson made way for McNeil who went in at right back moving Reid to cent- mid, slowly club took control and resulting pressure saw them convert after a succession of corners, the cross sweetly hit by Duncan headed home by a hard working Alison. 1-2. Now for the madness- whilst holding possession deep inside the FP's half, ref Darcy awards pen to FP's- confusion reigns- In an act of stupidity Mair retaliates to an off the ball incident only to be caught by the ref. PENALTY! 1-3. HT
Harsh words exchanged, dummies spat, water bottles kicked and thrown an unhappy team took to the Field with remaining sub, Douglas, brought on for Bartlett who looked out of sorts in the first half.
The penny drops and it's all club, who go down to 10 men- at the start of 2nd half- as Reid limps off injured, corner after corner wave after wave of attacking play with efforts hitting post etc luck seems to have deserted the now hardworking ten men who were rewarded at the death with a late goal headed in by Goldie from a corner. 2-3 - let's see this kind of effort for 90 mins and we just might get promoted. A very disappointing day and a big opportunity gone!

Saturday 27th January:   Barclay Cook Cup

Lads Club 3 v 3 Monymusk - Monymusk won 5-4 on penalties

Goals: M Duncan, Goldie, Allison

We're out! Cub in cup penalty shoot-out jinx!
The visitors Monymusk held on for extra time and somehow managed to defend the whole of the 30nim overtime period to sneak a result they never looked like getting as they edged Lads' Club 5-4 on pens.
Lads' Club minus 3 midfield regulars roared into this Lge cup QF with new signing Marc Campbell making his debut from the start, relentless pressure from the KO soon saw club 2 - 0 up with goals from Duncan and Goldie however an incredible lapse in concentration saw the defence switch off just before half time to allow the visitors a goal with there only attack of the half!
h-t 2-1
Second half started much the same as the first with Club in control, however a bad touch from keeper Deans left the Musk no9 with the easiest goal he'll ever score to make it all even! To Club's credit the reply was swift and the lead was quickly restored with a great passing move headed home neatly by The ever industrious Alison. Surely game over? No! Unfortunately the inexperience of the young midfield, who were guilty of diving in at the feet of the impressive musk no 8' saw the latter twist and turn two or three times on the
16 yard line to create space for a tidy finish! Once again Club threw everything at the Musk defence and to their credit they managed to hold firm, OK so they got away with a few hand balls in the box - but that’s football!

Ellon Thistle 2 v 1 Lads Club

Lads Club stung by thistle!!!

Ellon Thistle 2 Lads Club 1

Club crashed out of the North of Scotland cup at the hands of Ellon Thistle in a result that will leave a sour taste.

The worst possible thing happened when 'dry your eyes mate' turned up to referee the cup tie and true to form some of his decisions left most people watching the game baffled.

Ellon tried to intimidate Club with a noisy sideline but it backfired as
ALC took total control after the opening exchanges and dominated the first half. They got their rewards when a lovely Bruce through ball beat the defence and Allison beat the keeper and tripped over the ball and into the net. I'm sure if he had left it Bruce may have got off the mark for the season but only one guy truly believes that!!!

Tackles started flying in at the end of the first half and the beginning of the second and this unsettled Lads Clubs rhythm and allowed Ellon to get a foothold in the game. Passes were going astray and heads were being lost and Ellon equalised and then went on to get what proved to be the winner with about 15 minutes to go.

Lads Club did not lie down and the Ellon keeper had to make a tremendous save from Sparky to keep his side in the cup.

I think a fair summary is that the result could have went either way and perhaps the lesson to be learnt is that Lads Club must focus on getting the job done and no matter how good we may be we are always capable of beating ourselves!

Saturday 18th November:         Lads Club 5 v 0 Halliburton

Goals: Allison 2, Goldie 2, K Webster

MOM: Reid

Lads Club continued there good form and continued to close the goal difference on League Leaders Insch with a solid performance at Woodside against Halliburton.

Again Deans was a virtual spectator throughout the game with the Lads Club defence dealing well with any pressure. Bruce and McNeil both made solid returns to the first team.

The deadlock was eventually broken by a great solo effort from Allison who twisted and turned in the box, confusing defenders and the goalie. If anyone remembers the Portlethen game we can’t blame him for taking it to within a yard before knocking it in, even with this you are still never sure with Wayner.

Not to be out done in the scoring stakes Goldie/Ginger stepped up to knock in 2 and was unlucky with a dead wall penalty shout in the 2nd half, in fact I think he is still getting up off the park as we speak.

Top goal scorer will be fiercely contested as Allison produced a good finish for his 2nd but goal of the day goes to Keith Webster who struck from 25 yards out with an unstoppable strike past the hard worked Halliburton no.1.

Move of the day has to go to Allison who ran 20 yards to collect a ball on the sideline and tried to seal his place in the British Diving Team with a triple-somersault with extra pike to land well and truly face first with no one within 30 yards of him. Don’t fancy washing the number 10 shirt this week.

A break from League action as we travel to Ellon in the cup next week with the only poser for the team being; will Bartlett get his wallet out in the White Horse?

(Andy Duncan)

Saturday 11th November:         Lads Club 2 v 0 FC Hayloft

Goals: Allison, Mair

MOM: Mair

Lads Club went into this game knowing it was going to prove a tougher test that their recent cup victory over Hayloft and there were a few new faces in the opposing line up to back this up.

Competition for places at Lads Club however, is also heating up, with a near full squad to pick from; some players found that they were not even stripped for this game.

The home side made their intentions clear right from the off and pressed the play inside Hayloft’s half, leaving Deans as a virtual spectator throughout the first half. Allison and Duncan forged a good partnership through the middle, being the first time the pair had played together up front this season.

Although it was Mair who stepped up to provide the opener. He cracked in a speculative shot from distance that looked like it was easy pickings for the Hayloft no 1, but he seemed to lose his footing and fumbled the ball into the back of the net. Shouts for an own goal were heard but don’t think anyone would really want to argue the case with Ross.

At 1-0 going into the break, Lads Club new that they needed to push for that elusive 2nd as Hayloft were always dangerous on the break. This they proved as they broke down the right side and what looked like a cross found Deans on his toes and he pushed well over the bar.

The winner came when substitute Wilson, roared down the left wing and cut it across the 18 yard line to find Allison in space who sweetly struck the ball into the top corner.

A hard fought 3 points with Lads Club dominating possession.

A brief appearance by Goldie in the last fifteen minutes puts a smile on any Lads Club Supporter, some might say it is his goal scoring ability; others would argue it his haircut.

Saturday 21st October:    Lads Club 8 v 0 Fintray Thistle

Goals: Ryan Webster 3, Allison 2, Reid, Ross Webster, Mair

MOM: Mair

Creamer took the opportunity to send a message throughout the squad placing Reid and Goldie on the bench due to their poor attendance record at training.

For any players who are not aware, we train 8-10 at Dill Road on a Wednesday!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lads Club welcomed back Fraser and Liebnitz in defence in a game they controlled right from the start. Attacking play was the order of the day knowing that even though with the best defensive record in the league, goals for must be improved.

Ryan Webster played his part scoring his first hat trick for the club, brother Ross also chipped in with a goal, leaving Keith the only Webster not on the scoresheet.

Finally, Allison got a couple goals after all his hard work in previous games, hopefully the start of many to come.

Mair and Reid rounded of the goals finishing the game at 8-0.

A special mention has to go to Paul Reid, who near enough broke his own back attempting an overhead kick only for the referee to give a foul for dangerous play. The only danger was to himself, 10 -10 for effort though.

With players returning from holidays and injury, the message to come out of this game is;

Be at training and give Creamer something to think about!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

AFC Trophy

Saturday 14th October:    Lads Club 2 v 2 Inverurie FPs (aet)

7-6 after pens

Goals: Goldie, Ryan Webster

MOM: Reid

Saturday 7th October:      Grammar FPs 1 v 3 Lads Club Ams

Goals: Goldie 3

MOM: Bartlett

Lads Club bounced back from the disappointment of the Scottish Cup defeat with a hard fought victory over 2nd place Grammar FP’s.

Creamer adopted a cautious line up as it was the first time the teams had metin their history. Ryan Webster slotted into wing back as Club went with 4 at the back. The game started as it continued, with a physical battles happening all over the pitch.

It was Lads Club who created the first clear chance as Allison was felled in the box but Goldie flared the penalty past the keeper’s right hand post. Deans was called into action as Grammar pressed through the centre of the park and a long range effort was held well by the Lads Club keeper.

Goldie made no mistake with his 2nd chance as he latched on to a flick on a bared down on the Grammar goal to fire past the keeper.

Grammar continued to cause Lads Club problems through the middle and finally drew even 10 minutes from half time with a well placed shot past Deans.

1-1

Lads Club tightened up the midfield to repel Grammar where they had been successful in the first half and created more chances through Allison & Goldie. A free kick on the edge of the box resulted in a stupid booking for Goldie who decided to test the referee’s ability to count 10 yards and he was carded for decent. It didn’t stop him from stepping up and rifling the free kick in to the top corner.

Grammar continued to cause problems and 1 goal was never going to be enough for Club. Deans almost getting caught by a high ball which he expertly juggled wide for a corner. He used the good old “sun got in my eyes” to save his blushes.

Goldie finally got his hat-trick knocking in a cross from K. Webster to round off his day and the points for Lads Club.

3-1

And if anyone has seen Ian Douglas after he burst forward into the Grammar box and hit the bar please let Willie know as he was last sighted struggling to get back at Rubislaw.

Lads Club Win By A Mile At Insch

Ross Mair made his long awaited comeback after suspension and added the fight back into the heart of midfield.

The match kicked off at a fierce pace with Goldie immediately testing the keeper and pulling a couple of chances wide.

Deservedly, Lads Club eventually took the lead through Ryan Webster with a cracking finish and continued to dominate throughout the half. 5 minutes before the interval a seldom move forward from Insch resulted in the ball being bundled over the line to take the teams into the interval all square.

1-1

A few choice words from Creamer had the boys fired up for the second half but a devilish piece of fancy footwork from “Come Dancing” Deans beat everyone including himself to hand Insch the lead.

Lads Club responded well and lifted their game to produce some great chances and a couple of shouts for 2 penalties were also heard. A penalty was finally awarded letting Goldie step up to fire into the top corner.

As the game progressed, Lads Club pushed for the winner and it came minutes from the end when Goldie latched onto a through ball, beat a defender and placed the ball into the bottom corner. (The Committee may have to look at a new Award at this season’s Trophy Night, Best Goal Celebration, but sorry Goldie, you’ve got no chance)

A hard fought victory for the Lads Club that certainly gets their title aspirations right back on track. A break from the league coming up and hopefully a couple of good cup runs on the card with us finding some form at the right time.

A Note of Thanks

A mention must also go to Erin MacDonald for his services to the club over the past couple of years. He is off to University in Manchester albeit he has been growing a student’s haircut for years. All at Lads Club wish you all the best in the future and look forward to seeing you back in Aberdeen for your school holidays.

Saturday 2nd September:         Lads’ Club 4 v 1 Ellon Thistle

Goals: K Webster 2, Goldie 2

MOM:

When the referee finally decided to turn up Lads Club got about their business in the usual manner which has been missing in the last couple of outings.

Goldie and Sparky caused their defence problems every time Lads Club attacked and the Webster ‘trio’ were back playing as a solid unit across the midfield with Bartlett finally returning to be ‘Midfield General’ as Creamer adopted 3 at the back for the first time this season.

Davidson came in for his first start and had a tremendous game with the only blot a lapse in concentration to provide a superb pass to the Ellon forward for their goal. Douglas also returned to the defence and put in his performance so far with the sort of control we are used to seeing him produce in a Lads Club shirt.

The tone was set in the first half as Bruce broke up the left and hit what can only be described as a ‘3 foot high, 30 yard trundler’ which the Ellon keeper fumbled. From then on Lads Club took every opportunity to test him.

Goldie came provider as he crossed into the box for K.Webster to sweep into the back of the net taking Lads Club into half time at 1-0.

5 minutes after the restart Davidson provided Ellon with their way back into the came with an undeserved equaliser.

Lads Club showed their spirit and fight and instead of closing in on themselves, went on to fire in 2 goals from Goldie and another from K.Webster finishing with the 3 points and a 4-1 scoreline.

A mention must also go to Darren Ramsay who is off on his travels again, all at Lads Club wish you well and look forward to seeing you soon back on the left wing.

Saturday 26th August:               Lads’ Club 0 v 2 Stoneywood Ams

Goals:

MOM: Ryan Webster

2 potential league contenders fought a hard contest with Stoneywood scoring the goals to take the 3 points.

Jimmy Chung’s had a 2 for 1 discount deal on as Douglas was absent from the Lads Club defence pushing Reid across into the middle. Lads club had the majority of possession in the middle of the park creating most of the chances. M.Duncan forcing a great save from the Stoneywood no. 1 from a free kick just outside the area.

Lads Club squandered chance after chance and realistically should have been in front by a couple of goals but it just seemed to be one of those days.

Stoneywood’s patience paid off as the Lads Club defence opened up twice to let them in with there only 2 real chances of the game.

A disappointing result considering all the chances Lads Club had, the killer instinct needs to be rediscovered quickly with a tough schedule of Ellon and Insch fast approaching.

Wednesday 23rd August:          Lads’ Club 3 v 3 Ellon Ams

Goals: K Webster 2, M Duncan

MOM: M Duncan

Lads Club Held at Woodside

The only change in the line up from the weekend was the reappearance of Lynas between the sticks.

The hangover from Saturday’s victory was obviously still in the system as Lads Club didn’t start at the pace they have become accustomed to. So much so, Ellon were allowed to take the lead within 5 minutes. Lads Club finally came to life and on form M.Duncan took his opportunity clinically to equalise.

A Bruce cross was met by K.Webster in the box as he bulleted the ball past the keeper.

The lead didn’t last long as the low sun caused the Lads Club defence some problems, from a corner markers were lost and Ellon no 9 rose to head past Lynas taking the teams into the interval at 2-2.

The 2nd half was scrappy with neither team linking up that well, Lads Club did enough to take the lead again after a great through ball from Bartlett left K.Webster clear in the box to slot past the goalie.

Ellon given their due, never gave up on securing a point and in the closing stages a shot from the edge of the 6yard box was saved by Lynas but knocked into the back of the net by their number 17. (Who is now known as Maradona, the hand of Ellon).

Another 2 points dropped but an exciting match in prospect at the weekend, with 2 of the title favourites clashing at Woodside.

Saturday 19th August:      Lads’ Club 2 v 1 Rattrays XI

Goals: M Duncan, Ryan Webster

MOM: K Webster

The ghost of Grammar Rovers was put well and truly to rest on Saturday with an outstanding performance against a Premier Division outfit.

Taking in to account the limited resources available to Manager, Willie Creamer, some had written our chances off before a ball was even kicked.

Bartlett and Reid were pulled back into a defensive four and the Webster trio all started across the midfield with Goldie resuming his role up front.

Both teams fought from the off trying to press and test the opposing keeper but it was a game that was to be won in the midfield with K.Webster putting in his performance of the season so far, I honestly don’t think he lost a single tackle the whole day. Add to this the solid performances of Ryan and Ross playing alongside him, it was like ‘Fortress Webster’.

M. Duncan took it upon himself after some good passing in the middle of the park to look up and loop a shot over the Rattray’s keeper, I know Sparky, even without the deflection it was still going in.

Lads Club took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Again in the 2nd half the game turned physical, but Lads Club were up to the challenge being first to every ball and pressurising the opposition. The fighting spirit was definitely there for all to see and it was capped by an elegant finish from Ryan Webster who truly deserved his goal.

A 5 minute lapse in concentration allowed Rattray’s to break and score setting up a nail biting finish, but one that Lads Club never looked liked losing.

Great performance after the disappointment of mid week, with every player doing what was asked of him, even super striker Jim who ran himself into the ground for the last 20 minutes and could have even got on the score sheet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wednesday 16th August: Lads’ Club 1 v 2 Grammar Rovers

Goals: M Duncan

MOM: Bartlett

Everything that needed to be said about this game was more or less covered in the dressing room last night.

Lads Club started well, should have had at least 2 stick on penalties, the Grammar keeper should have been sent off for deliberate handball outside of the box, Duncan took his first goal of the season clinically, missed chance after chance, sold 2 soft goals and lost 3 points which should have been in the bag.

Again ‘that referee’ was up to his usual standard of confusion drawing in the frustrations of the Lads Club Player’s and Committee alike.

A match best forgotten, Lads Club have the perfect opportunity to redeem themselves against Premier opposition on Saturday.

Saturday 12th August:      Blackburn 0 v 5 Lads’ Club

Goals: Goldie, Ramsay 3, Reid

MOM: Reid

Lads Club faced their biggest challenge of the season so far…………….a night on the town with Mr Bruce’s infamous pink shirt!!!!!!!!!!!

Changes were made with Douglas and Bruce coming in as McNeil and Mair began their anticipated suspensions. Smith also made a welcomed return to the Lads Club defence and Bartlett took over as Skipper.

As in previous games, Lads Club came sprinting out of the blocks with Goldie knocking a measured cross from Ramsay just over the bar.

Bartlett and Reid bossed the midfield and the continued pressure resulted in ‘Goal-a-Game Goldie’ finding some space in the box to fire in the opener.

Both teams battled well, with Smith finding himself in the book for reasons only known to Mr Flett and Blackburn clipping Deans’ crossbar.

But it was Ramsay who found himself racing clear of the Blackburn defence to hammer the ball through the keeper and into the back of the net.

The 2nd half brought cheers from the visiting support as M.Duncan returned to the Lads Club frontline, replacing Goldie.

With Reid’s vision and ability to find a pass and the movement of Ramsay, Duncan and K. Webster, Lads Club were ensured to create chances throughout the half.

This they did, with K. Webster pulling a shot 3 miles wide, Douglas falling over his own boots and M. Duncan forcing the save of the season from the Blackburn keeper at point blank range. (Being very, very kind to you there Sparky, as it is your first game back)

It was up to Ramsay again to find space to knock in the 3rd followed closely with his hat-trick, an exquisite 30 yard lob over a helpless keeper.

Blackburn continued to fight it out and again rattled the crossbar.

A fine performance was capped by MOM Reid, who drilled a 35 yard rocket past a fully stretched keeper, finishing the game at 5-0.

Wednesday 9th August:   Lads’ Club 4 v 2 Monymusk

Goals: Goldie 2, Ramsay, Bartlett

MOM: Goldie

Lads Club started strongly from the kick off, immediately pressurising the Monymusk goal with an onslaught of slick passing and numerous corners.

The deadlock was finally broken by goal-a-game Goldie who took his chance well leaving the goalkeeper clutching thin air.

The second came closely after with Ramsay scoring direct from a corner on the right side. If McNeil had his full head of hair, he may be justified in the touch he is claiming!!!!

Just as Lads Club looked to continue their domination a soft free kick was awarded by the referee on the opposing sideline. Monymusk swept it into the box causing confusion in the 6 yard box leaving their centre forward an open net to knock the ball home from 2 yards.

The same team emerged for the 2nd half as Club pressed for the third goal wasting numerous good chances. Again against the run of play, Monymusk broke up the pitch to score, levelling it at 2-2.

From the shadows emerged Bruce and Douglas with Creamer trying to tighten things up and press forward for the 3 points.

An immediate impact was made by Bruce who hadn’t even dirtied his boots when he ended up in the Referee’s book.

The passing game started again, resulting in a swift move through the middle with Goldie turning well in the box to slot away for the 3rd time this season.

Bruce looked certain to score number 4 but I think the sun got in his eyes on this cloudy night as he smashed a shot against the upright from 1/5 a foot away.

The Monymusk area was again overrun in the later stages and with some good play by a couple of the Webster trio, Bartlett unfamiliarly found himself clear in the box to shoot well past the keeper to finish the game at 4-2.

Saturday 5th August:        Halliburton 0 v 3 Lads’ Club

Goals: Mair, Goldie, Douglas

MOM: Mair

Lads' club off to a flyer at Hazelhead, a comfortable win against the newly promoted Halliburton side looking for there first win in Div2. Total domination in centre mid saw Reid and Bartlett spray numerous passes around the park forcing a string of early corners, with 15mins gone a well hit Wilson corner from the left was powerfully met by a Ross Mair header which actually took the net off! 0-1. Club continued to press for the remainder of the half and were unlucky not to increase their lead through Goldie (crossbar) and some fine keeping HT 0-1.
Second half same story with club in control all over the park it was only a matter of time before the second goal came, with 60mins gone new striker Graham Goldie deservedly gets on the score sheet with an unstoppable drive from 20yds! 0-2. unfortunately for reasons only known to the ref- Wilson, Goldie and Mair found themselves in the book, ref with history? Another story! With Jimmy Chungs calling the ever hungry Douglas found himself in the box flashing a header past the flailing keeper to finish them off (with or without chop sticks) 0-3. A steady performance against opposition finding their feet in the new division but manager William Creamer must be pleased at another clean sheet bringing the goals tally up to 21 for 0 in the last four games.
